About AMSA
Agora Microfinance South Africa (AMSA) is a registered credit provider and purpose-driven financial institution focused on expanding responsible access to finance for underserved entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises. AMSA is an early- stage, growing organisation, so team members are expected to take ownership, work collaboratively and contribute to building practical, scalable lending processes.
Purpose of the Role
To identify and develop quality SME lending opportunities, build trusted relationships with business owners and referral partners, guide clients through the lending process, and manage an assigned portfolio from initial engagement through disbursement and ongoing monitoring.
Main Responsibilities
- Identify, develop and acquire suitable SME lending opportunities across the Western Cape.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline and develop referral relationships with accountants, consultants, suppliers, associations and other ecosystem partners.
- Meet business owners, understand their operations and financing needs, and guide them through the application process.
- Conduct preliminary business and financial assessments, including review of cash flow, affordability and key operational risks.
- Gather complete documentation and prepare high-quality credit application packs in collaboration with the Credit Analyst.
- Manage client expectations and provide professional service before, during and after loan disbursement.
- Manage an assigned SME portfolio, monitor repayment performance and identify early warning signs or emerging risks.
- Provide market intelligence, identify growth opportunities and contribute to improving AMSA’s products, processes and client experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in SME banking, commercial banking, business lending, relationship management, enterprise finance or business development.
- Experience working directly with business owners and entrepreneurs and building professional relationships.
- Ability to understand business models, cash flow, financial information and business performance.
Strong commercial judgement, organisation, communication and report-writing skills. - Fluency in English and eligibility to work in South Africa.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing an SME client portfolio and monitoring repayment performance.
- Experience preparing credit applications or working closely with credit teams and committees.
- Knowledge of responsible lending, loan-management systems and the Western Cape SME market.
- Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa.
Travel Requirements
Regular client visits, business-development meetings and travel across Cape Town and the Western Cape are core requirements. A valid South African driver’s license and reliable transport are strongly preferred.

Purpose of the Role
To independently assess micro, small and medium-business loan applications, evaluate affordability and repayment capacity, identify material risks, and prepare clear, evidence-based recommendations that support responsible lending and protect portfolio quality
Main Responsibilities
- Assess loan applications in line with AMSA’s credit policies, responsible-lending standards and delegated authority framework.
- Analyse bank statements, financial statements, management information and other evidence to determine income, expenses, cash flow and repayment capacity.
- Assess informal or cash-based businesses by triangulating available evidence, documenting assumptions and applying appropriate conservatism.
- Identify inconsistencies, unsupported transactions, hidden obligations, adverse credit behaviour, fraud indicators and compliance concerns.
- Conduct affordability assessments, sensitivity analysis and stress tests, and evaluate whether the proposed amount, term and installment are appropriate.
- Prepare concise credit assessment reports and recommend approval, revised structure, further investigation or decline.
- Present applications to decision-makers or Credit Committee and ensure approval conditions are satisfied before disbursement.
- Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready credit files and contribute to portfolio monitoring, reporting and credit-process improvement.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Risk Management or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years’ relevant experience in credit assessment, business lending, SME finance, microfinance, commercial banking, asset finance or financial analysis.
- Demonstrated experience assessing repayment capacity using bank statements, cash-flow information and financial statements.
- Experience preparing written credit recommendations and presenting applications to decision-makers or a Credit Committee.
- Strong numerical reasoning, Excel capability and written communication skills.
- Fluency in English and eligibility to work in South Africa.
Preferred Experience
- Experience assessing small businesses,
- entrepreneurs or informally operated businesses.
- Experience with credit-bureau reports, KYC/AML checks, loan-management systems and post disbursement monitoring.
- Working knowledge of the National Credit Act, POPIA and responsible-lending requirements.
- Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa.
Travel Requirements
The role is primarily office-based. Occasional travel within Cape Town and the Western Cape may be required for client interviews, site visits or verification. Reliable transport is advantageous.

To identify and engage suitable micro and small-business clients, build trusted community relationships, and convert genuine financing needs into complete, responsible and credit-ready loan applications. This is a front-line growth role requiring substantial time in the field.
Main Responsibilities
- Identify and engage active micro and small businesses with genuine, productive financing needs.
- Conduct field visits, canvassing, meetings and follow-ups across assigned areas to build a sustainable prospect pipeline.
- Explain AMSA’s products, eligibility requirements and application process clearly and responsibly.
- Guide applicants in gathering and submitting complete, accurate supporting documents and information.
- Perform initial screening for obvious eligibility, affordability, documentation or suitability concerns.
- Maintain accurate prospect, application and activity records and provide timely pipeline updates.
- Work closely with Credit and Operations to resolve information gaps and reduce avoidable rework.
- Support post-disbursement follow-up and share client feedback, market intelligence and referral opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric certificate.
- 1–3 years’ experience in field sales, business development, client acquisition, financial services, microfinance, retail sales,
telecommunications or a similar target-driven role. - Demonstrated ability to build trust, follow up consistently and convert suitable prospects into customers.
- Good administrative ability and attention to detail when collecting and recording client information.
- Comfort using a smartphone, email, Microsoft Office and digital CRM or loan-management tools.
- Fluency in English and eligibility to work in South Africa.
Preferred Experience
- Experience engaging directly with small-business owners, informal traders or community-based clients.
- Experience with loan applications, financial products or credit sales.
- Further study or certificates in business, sales, finance, marketing or a related field.
- Afrikaans and/or isiXhosa.
Travel Requirements
Regular travel and substantial fieldwork within Cape Town and surrounding areas are required. A valid driver’s licence and/or reliable transport is strongly preferred.
